By education, I mean all-around drawing out of the best in child and man, body mind and spirit. Literacy is not the end of education, not even the beginning. It is one of the means whereby men and women can be educated. Literacy in itself is no education."

- Mahatma Gandhi

"The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character – that is the goal of true education."

- Martin Luther King Jr.

“Education’s purpose is to replace an empty mind with an open one.

- Malcolm Forbes

“Education is what remains after one has forgotten what one has learned in school.”

- Albert Einstein

The "Almighty" Syllabus

Our Education System operates solely within the rigid confines of the "Syllabus", making it almost entirely theoretical in approach.

This system neglects crucial aspects such as Curiosity, Inquisitiveness, Creativity, Free-Thinking, and the Development of Cognitive and Behavioral Skills.

While, our Education System prepares us to get good score in Standardized Testing, it does next to nothing to prepare us to face the complexities of the Modern Life.

The rigid confines of the "Syllabus" make our Educational Institutes similar to a Factory's Assembly Line, where the Curiosity and Inquisitiveness of a child is systematically destroyed to make them literate and trained just enough to become the worker in a company / Organization.

But, Being Literate & Trained Does Not Mean Being Educated.

The Real Purpose Of Education

The objective of the Traditional Education System is Utilitarian, i.e. To make a student just literate and trained enough to get a job.

The real purpose of Education, in the truest sense is - Enlightenment, To Instill Wisdom, Critical Thinking And To Develop An Open & Active Mind.

While the acquisition of knowledge can't be ignored, but the sole focus on this aspect of education by the current system and not focusing on the development of crucial cognitive skills and on building character are leaving students ill-equipped to navigate the complexities of the modern world, lacking the essential skills necessary for innovation, problem-solving, and effective decision-making.

The most important problem we need to address immediately is to focus on the Skills Based Holistic Development of our children.

Transforming Education In The Global South: Towards 2050

Holistic education is essential as it fosters the comprehensive development of students, addressing their intellectual, emotional, social, physical, artistic, creative, and spiritual potentials.

It cultivates a balanced and integrated approach to learning, empowering students to develop critical thinking, emotional resilience, and a deep sense of purpose that unleashes the boundless potential within each individual, forging leaders who are equipped with the confidence, wisdom, empathy, and resilience to transform the world.

At STEMSootra, we believe that the time has come to redefine the context of Indian Education and shift the public focus from Score - Centric Education to Skills Based Education along with Holistic Development.
